Footprints in Recovery realizes that the continuing
recovery process only begins
after the initial rehabilitation
program ends. The stark reality
is that many recovering
individuals are unemployable and
are not ready to face the
demands of so-called “normal
society”. With this in mind,
Footprints offers an alternative
to being thrown back into a
stressful world unprepared. Our
Sober Living concept is a
program that allows the client
to become reacquainted with the
community and the everyday
issues we all face in a sober
manner.
First, we offer a comfortable, home-like setting for
individuals in a house that is
shared with other like-minded
individuals. Generally, each
resident shares a room with
another person of the same sex
living under the same
guidelines. You may be familiar
with some other halfway house
models, but ours differ in some
ways which will be explained
further on.
After housing is secure, the resident can then focus on
getting to other necessary
issues such as job seeking,
medical care, transportation,
food and clothing matters and
money management. The Footprints
staff offers real-world
experience and training in these
matters and will see to it the
resident is “plugged into” the
programs they qualify for within
the community within the first
30 days.
The usual half-way house model involves a number of
recovering individuals working
outside the home and sharing
responsibility of the daily
maintenance and upkeep of the
house itself and the economic
issues as well. While all
residents are required to
provide for their housing and
food expenses, the staff takes
care of the bill paying and
other paperwork involved in
maintaining the physical
structure of the house. There
are rules and regulations
outlined in the application
process that must be maintained
in order to be a resident. There
is also the peace of mind that
staff members are close at hand
to address issues and problems
that arise in recovery. No one
is ever left out of decisions
made concerning the house.
